Howell Woods consists of over 2,800 acres containing 9 natural
communities and diverse flora and fauna. Facilities include
a classroom for 36-50 people, exhibit hall, amphitheater and
natural resources library available for use by the public. Two cabins
available for rent which sleep 8 people each. Over 30 miles of
unpaved roads and trails for small group horseback
riding, mountain biking, bird watching, long-distance hiking,
no-trace camping and fishing are available. Of special interest
is a recovery facility for wounded birds of prey.

fishing. Programs offered through Johnston Community
College. From I-95, Exit 90, US Hwy 701 E., left on Devil’s
Racetrack Road, 8 miles, the center is located on the left.
