Ava's Awards
Although Ava Gardner often dismissed her own acting abilities, others delighted in her natural beauty and earthy screen presence. During her 45-year career, she received recognition and accolades from critics, fans, and film festivals the world over – earning Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA acting nominations along the way. Following the release of several hit films, Ava was asked to leave her hand and footprints at the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. In 1960, she was among the first phase of honorees to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
She has been celebrated with historical markers in the U.S., her hometown of Smithfield, and England; a bronze statue of her overlooks the coast of Spain; and she’s been featured on stamps in at least eight foreign countries. When the American Film Institute named the 50 greatest screen legends of the 20th Century, it was no surprise Ava Gardner was included on that exclusive list.
